Multimedia Marketing Offers Special Challenges

No comments:
Continued from Tuesday:

Targeting The Small Screen, Media Post's behavioral Insider for March 24 stresses the importance of the cell phone as a new channel for advertising:
  • Over 160 million Internet-enabled cell phones are in use today.

  • 20+ million people regularly access the Internet from cell phones.

  • almost 5 million Americans use video-enabled handsets.

  • Four channels (Mobile web, video broadcast, downloadable Java applets and games, text messaging) provide unique targeting abilities and marketing opportunities.
Tom Burgess, CEO of Third Screen Media, one of the first ad networks devoted to the new medium, explains how targeting will be used for mobile advertising:
What we've developed is an end-to-end ad delivery, tracking and management platform that can unify mobile Web, or WAP, downloadable Java, video and text messaging content and data. Targeting parameters we're using already include geography, carrier, device, keyword, and day part. But the big step we're moving to now is to integrate external databases with customer demographics and behavioral information.
So, watch that small screen for advertising and do not be surprised when you see it. First time I get a popup window on the cell phone, I am turning off my service.

Have a great day!

Digital Music Market Boom

No comments:
As Consumers Continue to Take Legal Route, Online Music Market to Experience Healthy Growth is latest report from In-Stat verifies that the Internet becomes a key distribution channel for digital music sales.
  • Nearly half of the survey respondents admitted to downloading music from the Internet; and 64 percent of these respondents have paid for the music.

  • The largest percentage of respondents who have purchased music online spent between $10 and $20 in the last 12 months.

  • The most popular site used was iTunes, with 53 percent of music purchasers having used the site.
As reported in the March 28 Research Brief from the Center for Media Research: Online Music, Music, Music
  • Online sales of digital music represented almost 6 percent of the total worldwide music market in 2005. This figure is up from virtually zero in 2003.

  • According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), paid-for digital single downloads reached 420 million in 2005, which is more than double the number of digital singles downloaded in 2004.

  • Another method is subscription-based services, with the overall subscriber base reaching 2.8 million, up from 1.5 million in 2004.

  • Online song catalogues doubled to nearly 2 million songs on all major online music services. In addition, the number of legitimate music sites reached 335 worldwide, up from 50 in 2003.
  • Mobile phones have evolved from basic voice-based handsets to multimedia handsets used for different functions such as voice, data, music, music distribution and video.
The last tidbit of information is important. As cell phones turn into multimedia handsets, all sorts of opportunities will arise for the savvy marketer.

Stay tuned,

Blogger Status Elevated to Expert by Search Engines?

No comments:
Yahoo! has added Local (beta) for reading the news about the area in which you live. When you arrive at this page, note the search bar right above your area news. The choices given are search: All News and Blogs, Yahoo! News Only, News Photos, Audio/Video. The status of bloggers has just been elevated to news source.

Podzinger is indexing podcasts and video clips. Podzinger lets you search audio clips, skipping to the portion of the clip where your search term is spoken. Watch what you say on your podcast--search engines keep indexes forever.

Google Finance, which is in beta, provides financial information on company stocks with interactive charts, news, search on mutual funds, stocks, and company information, and discussion boards. If you want the opinions of citizen journalists, you got 'em; Google Finance includes company-related postings from Google Blog Search. Bloggers as financiers. I like it!

Do you think these are just quirks or do they signal a real shift in the perception of the influence of bloggers on advertising, marketing and promotion?

Firefox: Productivity, Function and Fun

No comments:
The Mozilla Firefox browser has many useful features, such as tabbed browsing and toolbar searching, that work without any add-ons, extensions, search engines or themes. However, if you like to explore new technology and to expand your knowledge and use of the Internet, this site is for you.

Add-ons for FireFox:
  • Extensions, like the BOOKMARK button or FLASHGOT, add new functionality to Firefox.
  • Plugins allow you to view web content, like Adobe PDFs or media clips, in your browser.
  • Add popular or specialized search engines to the Firefox search toolbar.
  • Skin your browser with themes.
Below are a few searches I use to locate new tools on the Mozilla.org site.
If you use Firefox, you really should spend 30 minutes exploring this site. Some add-ons you will love, not all will work perfectly, now and then your computer will freeze and you will have to uninstall a plugin. On the whole, my experience has been positive.

Have a better day tomorrow!

More Google -VS- Government

No comments:
The Federal judge ruled that privacy issues far outweigh the pornographic research material needs of the government. Google will help the research by providing 50,000 random URLs from its index rather than query logs, which could identify users.

This finding is in line with the thoughts of most Americans. A full 65 percent of respondents oppose monitoring the Internet use of Ordinary Americans by the governent, with 30 percent of respondents supporting governent intervention in the online lives of Ordinary Americans.

Let freedom reign,

Americans say NO to government monitoring of Internet activities

No comments:
A survey of American adults, conducted by the Center for Survey Research and Analysis (CSRA) at the University of Connecticut, found that:
Although the public is split over whether companies should turn search information over to the government, they do not support either Internet companies storing such information or the government monitoring it.
A full 65 percent of respondents oppose monitoring the Internet use of Ordinary Americans by the governent, with 30 percent of respondents supporting governent intervention in the online lives of Ordinary Americans.

The government is not through with Google, yet. Stay tuned.

No comments:
Gather.com, an new blog platform launched in November of 2005, has rapidly grown to network status. Articles on Gather.com cover all topics. Partially funded by NPR mainstay American Public Media Group, Gather.com's 20,000 members are older and more literate than most members of other social networks. Targeting Made Easy With Google AdWord Tools

No comments:
If you use Google AdWords to advertise, you should investigate the demographic targeting tools available on the Google site.

First, you may enter the URLs of sites where you would like to advertise. If the sites you enter are part of the Google content network, you will be able to select them.

Second, you may enter descriptive terms that match the content of your advertisement.

Third, you may choose up to three demographic categories: audience gender, age and household income, for example. The AdWords system will return a listing of available Google Network member sites popular with your target market. If you have entered more than one demographic, the tool returns sites that fit all demographics chosen.

Each of the above three methods may return up to 100 available sites when you click Get Available Sites. Click Add next to any listed website to add it to your list of selected sites.

Last, after you have selected sites, click the Find more sites like these link. The AdWords system analyzes the selections and find related or similar sites.

You now have a demographically targeted, personally selected list of websites on which you may want to advertise. If you go through the entire process, you will know that you have not missed any important websites for your target market.

Podcasting: Who's Tuning In?

No comments:
Back in November of 2005, Advertising for Success Blog reported:

Thirty-second spots and solo sponsorships are a great way to get your brand out in front of pod-heads. You should match the interests of your audience, as an advertisement may be perceived as an interruption if not properly staged.

How to measure effectiveness of an ad or sponsorship in a podcast?
  • Measure the number of downloaded podcasts as a percentage of total website traffic.
  • Use word or number code in your campaign that must be entered on your website or given to operators over the telephone to receive more information.
  • Follow the buzz (interest) through Internet chat rooms and blogs.
Podcasting may not be for every advertiser. However, some retailers of products that may not be advertised on traditional channels, such as condoms, may find podcasts an attractive alternative.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, in March 2006, a new report, Podcasting: Who's Tuning In?, by eMarketer, the active podcast audience numbers roughly 3 million in 2006, and will increase to 7.5 million in 2008 and to 10 million in 2010. eMarketer reports that advertising of podcasts will reach $80 million this year and $300 million by 2010.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This new interactive media has proven an effective advertising vehicle to reach a young, technologically savvy market. What are you waiting for?
