Offer RSS and Email Subscriptions

5 comments:
I was reading another blogger's post on why you should not offer an RSS subscription because most people do not know what it is and would rather have email updates.

I disagree. When I first started offering feed (RSS) subscriptions on my blogs, I had a link to a page on my website at CoolAdz.com that defined feed, explained how to use RSS, detailed where to get a feed reader, and the discussed the difference between subscribing by RSS and by email.

What I have found is that many bloggers subscribe by RSS. They do not read all the feeds, they just search for certain keywords, author or blog name. They glance at the entries and read the ones that interest them. The feeds may stay in their reader and they may refer to them later.

An email subscription services sends an email to your readers' email inbox every time you updates your blog. Unless your readers want more email, change your email delivery schedule to arrive on a certain day of the week. Of course, your readers may still visit your blog in the meantime, but a weekly email/newsletter will them updated without crowing their email inbox.

You may notice I have a subscribe by Bloglines badge in addition to the other options (above). Bloglines was one of the first blog readers and some page ranking programs use subscriptions through Bloglines to value blogs, so I leave it.

If you would like to have a better understanding of RSS, blog feeds and subscriptions, please visit my website CoolAdz.com. If you have any questions after reading this post and that web page, please feel free to leave a question here and I will help you if I can.

Amber Alerts on Twitter Now

No comments:
There are some wonderful uses of the Internet. Follow @Amber_Alert to receive Amber Alerts on Twitter. Prior to this, Amber Alerts were issued by the Emergency Broadcast System, featured on some digital billboards, displayed on individual blogs and, of course, shown on AmberAlert.com.

AmberAlert is a simple yet powerful demonstration of the Word of Mouth (WOM). The addition to Twitter should increase the effectiveness of AmberAlert many times.

Remember to put your most important information on Twitter. Prove the power of WOM to yourself.

Ethics, Grace and Greed in the 21st Centrury

2 comments:
The Good Person Guidebook ~ Transforming your Personal Life by Richard Bayer, Ph.D. (2008, 5 o'clock Books) intrigued me from the first.

As the economy worsens and more of us struggle financially, we start to reflect on what matters truly in life.

Dr. Bayer suggests that a sea change will come upon us as a nation as we begin to learn to trust, love, and express our gratitude for that with which we have been blessed.

Some ways to initiate the change:
  1. Learn what love really means and practice it..
  2. Always treat coworkers, family, friends and all others with divinity and respect.
  3. Stop squashing your hopes and the hopes of others. Become a mentor instead.
  4. Be thrifty and generous. Not wasteful but in a giving loving way.
  5. Awaken your gratitude. List your blessings, write them down, post them. . . .
  6. Make sure you are really working toward your goals. If not, you are wasting your time.

Blog Action Day: Definitions of Poverty

No comments:

Statistics and data about global poverty

  • Each year, more than 8 million people around the world die because they are too poor to stay alive.
  • Over 1 billion people—1 in 6 people around the world—live in extreme poverty, defined as living on less than $1 a day.
  • More than 800 million go hungry each day.
  • Over 100 million primary school-age children cannot go to school.
Definintions of Poverty

Extreme (or absolute) poverty: Living in extreme poverty (less than $1 a day) mean not being able to afford the most basic necessities to ensure survival. 8 million people a year die from absolute poverty.

Moderate poverty: Moderate poverty, defined as earning about $1 to $2 a day, enables households to just barely meet their basic needs, but they still must forgo many of the things-education, health care-that many of us take for granted. The smallest misfortune (health issue, job loss, etc.) threatens survival.

Relative poverty: Lastly, relative poverty means that a household has an income below the national average.

Think About It

No comments:
I read a blog entry on the Entrecard Blog with great interest. The blog outlined how a program, pushed by all the big names (or gurus) as a great way to make money from the Internet, had not paid a particular member. Evidently, many members have been burned by Performancing Ads.

This is a rough way to learn about MLM (multi-level marketing) or affiliate marketing. As marketers, we are expected to be on the cusp of any new method, tool or program. However, it is a good idea to try a program before we begin to market it. Join and explore the program, login and explore the back office, read through the forums and investigate the support. Wait and see if the program works as it should and that you are paid BEFORE you start promoting it.

It is very easy to get caught up with the latest craze and try to "get in on the ground floor" or "take advantage of the first mover advantage." However, your credibility drops with each non-performer you introduce to your list.

Is Video in Your Future?

No comments:
While browsing online, the website of the Chicago Video Production Company caught my attention. What really impressed me were the ways that an independent video production company can help a company save time and money.

Why Use a Video Production Company?

When I was working for a State agency, I was charged with editing webcasts, althought I did not have any related training or experience and we did not have the proper software or equipment. I did the best I could, but the outcome could have been so much better and the clips could have been archived for use by our advertising agency.

Purpose of Video

A video may be made for a corporate website for purposes of introduction or training, or used for sales, marketing and promotion. Richter Studio can either shoot on location or use film clips and other pieces of preexisting multimedia to create a new look for your company's website.

What Will Video Do for My Business?

Bring your business into the 21st century with video on demand for most requested items. You might want to provide news clips on your website, product offering videos, a demonstration tape, or an interview with the "man/woman in the street" about your products. Has an executive just won an industry honor? Do you have an employee or safety team of the month? Did your employees raise money for a good cause this month? Publicize these events and showcase your employees' efforts. You cannot buy this type of publicity.

Tell Me More . . .

Incorporate video clips, interviews and new product releases on your website for a totally interactive experience. Provide a virtual kiosk where your customer may ask a question, sign up for a newsletter or have request more information.

Note:

Develop a video-free, text-only website in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act.

The Halloween Mood is Upon Me Now

No comments:
Ready for Some Fun?

I am feeling better and want to host a free-for-all Halloween BLOG Carnival. You do not have to belong to any group, link to any post, write about the contest on your blog or ANYTHING. It would be cool if you would Stumble, Digg, Twitter, add this post to Technorati or any other easy way to get some free publicity for the carnival.

CyberCelt having a bad hair day.

Halloween Carnival

Share your Halloween posts about easiest homemade costumes, funniest Halloween trick ever, best homemade treats, spooky stories, haunted houses-- you name it. Write about family activities that you do instead of trick or treating.

Fall Fest

If you do not celebrate Halloween, then share your favorite thoughts about Fall. Fall color, Fall traditions, Fall crafts, family reunions, harvest recipes and handmade gifts. Share photographs of your dog in flaming fall color.

Deadline for Entries

The deadline for entries is October 30 at midnight. After that time, begging and pleading come into play. LOL Before this time, send the URL to your entry post, including your name or alias, the name and the URL of your blog and your email addy (to only be used for questions and will not be posted with your entry.

Carnival Date

Please join me and others (I hope) on this blog on October 31 to read the stories, share the treats and dodge the tricks as they come flying at you. Share a giggle, a belly laugh or the family's secrets.

What Do I Do Again?

Send the URL to your entry post, including your name or alias, the name and the URL of your blog and your email addy. If you do not have a blog, send me the post and it will be posted here.

ETC.

Sorry, no SPLOGS about pharma, gambling, making scads of money for $2 investment, naked women, affiliate sales pages, girls going wild, men gone crazy, ointments for certain body parts or any of that other CRAP seen on TV after 10 pm. If this is your idea of family fun, you need to get a life.
