Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising

Several bloggers I know have a few questions about the revised guidelines for endorsements and testimonials in advertising. The guidelines fall under the auspices of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and were revised this year. I finally found some information on the FTC website by searching and winnowing my way through the on-site search engine.

What I Discovered

Between deceptive practices in the banking, mortgage and pharmaceutical industries, FTC is not focusing on bloggers at this time. However, if you are a marketer, you should have a disclosure policy that is easy to find and labeled "Disclosure" on your blog.

Luckily, disclosure and honesty have been the standard operating procedure for most bloggers who write paid posts or sell advertisements on their blogs. I have a disclosure policy and a statement of blogging ethics.

If I find other sites as I explore, I will be back to post them.

People give testimonials because they have liked the product or service they have purchased from the companies that you see on these Websites. Often they are asked to give the testimonial, but the bottom line is that they would not give them if they didn't like the product or service.

Definitely being a blogger should be very concern about being honest on what he or she post in the blog. Copying other works of people from other blog is against the law. But if you would really like to use their information you should at least give credit to their works.
