WARNING I am an old woman now ....

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves

And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.

I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired.
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells.
And run my stick along the public railings.
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.

I shall go out in my slippers in the rain.
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens . . .
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised

When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

I loved the comic and the little thing written under it. It reminds me of that anonymous poem written by the "crabby old woman" from Scotland. Have you read that? It brought tears to my eyes.

Does that mean that when I'm an old man I can wear brown suits with trousers that come up to my chest? Perhaps I shall wear an old trilby hat with a feather in the band.

I could then shuffle along the pavements getting in everyone else's way and spend hours staring at trees in the park. I could feed the ducks and scowl at joggers as they saunter past.

I could read the newspaper making tutting sounds at each headline and slurp my tea and spill crumbs from my toast all over the table without a hint of embarrassment.

Best of all, I could spend all my money on a ticket to sail around the world one last time - and sail off into the sunset without any regrets...

That picture is hilarious, I love the cards with that woman on them. I find myself laughing every time.

Seems like you have senior citizenship all down pat. Also, it qualifies you to legally say "When I was your age..." Haha. Happy Birthday!
