Give Me Coupon or Lose My Business

10 comments:
Do you remember clipping coupons? Searching newspapers, combing direct mail, checking in-store newsletters, trading with friends? I am probably dating myself when I talk about supermarkets that doubled and even tripled the coupon's value. I loved when I got something for free; or, better yet, make money on a purchase.

A recent survey by Compete, found online shoppers use coupons, too. I think saving money, no matter our budget, satisfies an atavistic urge in all of us. Give us our coupons.

Coupons Are Good For the Bottom Line (Compete, June 2010)
One-third of online shoppers surveyed in the latest Online Shopper Intelligence™ survey said they generally use coupon sites while shopping online. In fact, 35 million consumers visited coupon sites in April 2010, up 5 percent from the year prior.
In response to the question "If you did not have a coupon, would you have made a purchase..." respondents answered:
  • No... 57%
  • Yes...43%
How much did you spend? (average spend on most recent online purchase)
  • With coupon... $216
  • No coupon... $122
Satisfaction with most recent online shopping experience (Extremely or Very satisfied)
  • With coupon 92% Extremely or Very Satisfied
  • No coupon 88%
Are you likely to purchase from this retailer again? (most recent online purchase, Extremely or Very Likely)
  • With coupon 91%
  • No coupon 86%
While consumers certainly enjoy coupons, what do retailers get out of it? Turns out, coupons have a significant impact on retailers’ bottom lines.
Do you provide coupons for your shoppers? Do you use them when you shop online? Share, please . . .
