Merry Video, Happy Gaming

Ho,ho,ho trial
(December 2) Well it has been a Video and Gaming Holiday season, with PlayStation 3 and Wii game systems selling out across the country, people camping overnight to buy a two or three PS3s so they could auction one on eBay. Poor scheduling and distribution problems haunted both systems. Microsoft estimates it will have shipped 10 million Xbox 360s by the end of year. Nintendo claims 600,000 gaming units sold in the USA. Sony may have sold around 200,000 PS3s.

Final figures for November

(December 16) According to a new report from NPD Group, almost $9 billion in hardware, software and accessories have been sold this year, increasing 69 percent, 7 percent and 10 percent over November 2005. Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PlayStation 3 systems are credited with a whopping 103 percent increase in console sales over last year.

According to Adverting Age
Nintendo sold 476,000 Wii consoles, while Sony sold 197,000 PS3s, according to NPD. Nintendo has said it has shipped 600,000 devices and plans several million by the end of the year. Sony continues to be beset by delays and has stopped commenting on the current season, but reiterated that it plans to have six million PS3s worldwide by the end of March 2007.
Game Sales Increasing
The Wii game, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, was third behind Gears of War and PS2's Final Fantasy in software sales.
So. . . ho-ho-ho, if you do not have a game system wrapped and under the tree, you may be in for some Christmas whining. (I always ask if they want some cheese with that whine...)
