"We originally built the relationship with Michael, as well as the other Olympic athletes, to support our association with the U.S. Olympic team," a Kellogg spokeswoman said in a statement. "Michael's most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg. His contract expires at the end of February and we have made a decision not to extend his contract."Michael Phelps won his many Olympic Gold medals fair and square. He never tested positive for steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. He is stupid to allow himself to be filmed in a compromising situation; however, in my opinion, Kellogg is overreacting. Or, maybe not. They dropped their Olympic Team sponsorship, so maybe this is a good excuse to take a cost-saving measure.
I think they could have used this incident to connect to college aged consumers. Instead, they have alienated anyone who ever smoked a joint or got drunk in college. What do you think?

I think that smoking a joint and getting drunk are two instances that are very different. Smoking a joint is illegal whereas getting drunk is not (if you're of legal age). I feel bad that these photos have surfaced for him because smoking a joint doesn't make you a bad person but he made a bad decision and unfortunately he's having to suffer the consequences for his actions, even if it was prior to his Olympic Gold status.
Well, I think that smoking a joint and getting drunk are two different things. Smoking a joint is illegal whereas getting drunk is not (as long as you're of legal age). I don't think that smoking a joint makes him a bad person, it just means that he made a poor decision. Unfortunately sometimes the decisions we make whether it at a party or not, we have to suffer the consequences later in life. It's regrettable that he's losing the sponsorship, but I can't say that I blame them...just a CrAzY Mom's take on the matter.
@anonymous-They could have handled it much better, without pulling his sponsorship. It is their choice and they will have more to worry about soon. See answer to cww below.
@cww-Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I think the DWI should have been a DUI in my post. I am not sure. BTW-Kelloggs pop tarts have been found to contain Mercury. See article on Losing Proposition
I dont think it's such a big deal, well maybe it is. He already apologized for it and the fact that he was caught in this position just proves that he is human and that people make mistakes sometimes. I'm sure he has learned from his mistake and will grow from it. I definitely think Kelloggs is overreacting
