Bingahoo? Yabing? Bingahooy?

I did not write a post on this before because MSN and Yahoo have negotiated the deal to death in the past. However, it looks like Bing may become the search engine for Yahoo. Then, perhaps Bing/Yahoo (Bingahoo? Yabing? Bingahooy?) will be a real competitor to Google.

Do You Bing? Yahooers May Soon Search With Microsoft - Advertising Age - Digital
From the article:

Yahoo's request for an upfront payment (it is said to have asked for several hundred million), in addition to revenue guarantees that would amount to billions over the course of the deal, caused a breakdown last week in the on-again-off-again talks.
Other issues to be worked out are:
  • Microsoft wants to develop technology and not sell media.
  • Microsoft wants to eliminate Yahoo as a search engine competitor.
  • Yahoo wants more revenue from searches that originate on Yahoo and lead to a purchase.
  • Yahoo wants access to data for use in behavioral targeting.
  • Yahoo wants a share of revenue from the sale of search ads.
  • Will Yahoo give Bing the "powered by" brand?
  • Would advertisers buy ads via Yahoo's Panama or Microsoft's AdCenter platform?
I hope they can reach an agreement soon. Yahoo! is stagnating as a search engine and losing marketshare to Bing. If negotiations bog down again, the winner will be Google.

Need the Perfect Image for Your Blog?

Found on Free Media Goo

Today I was searching for a particular photograph, which I did not find. However, I DID discover many photography sites that have FREE images. In most cases you must attribute the photograph to the site or photographer.

Acclaim Images

Big Stock Photo

Burning Well

Design Packs

Flickr

Free Media Goo

Stock.xchng

Woophy

Please read the terms and conditions of using the images BEFORE you use. As stated above, most photographers/photography sites just want a link back.

I had limited time to search, so I know this list is incomplete. Please share any sites that I may have missed for FREE photographs.

Scavenger Hunt at My Quality Day

Do you remember scavenger hunts from childhood. . . Running around bothering parents and strangers for weird items and racing back to base with your treasures? I think the popularity of geocaching is that it appeals to the young scavenger in all of us.

My Quality Day blog is holding a blog scavenger hunt and I think it is a wonderful idea. This is a great way to discover some blogs and possibly win prizes.

The hunt will go from one blog to another, with new clues daily for four days. You will be responsible for gathering the answers to scavenger questions and emailing the answers to Joan aka Sharkbytes.

Stop by My Quality Day to read the rules and then revisit each day to get more clues. Take a look at the prizes and get ready to S-C-A-V-E-N-G-E.

Get the Backlink You Wanted

This is a repost from June 2008 (Backlink as you Like It). I have lots of people searching and commenting on the old message, so I thought I would update it. Blogger is now Google, so you must login to your blog using your Google account.

I am a do-follow blogger. I have edited my template so that readers who comment on my blog posts receive a backlink. However, with Google blogs, you must choose your identity carefully to receive a proper link back.

If you are signed into Google, as shown above, your link will go to your Blogger profile and not to your blog. So, make sure your profile is up to date or read on about leaving links by other methods. Notice the check box where you may choose to have comments on this post emailed to you.

If you use OpenID for WordPress (as shown above) or LiveJournal, your comment will link back to your Word Press blog. If you use OpenID, OpenID for TypeKey or OpenID for AIM, your backlink leads to your profile page for that particular service.

The option to leave your name and URL, as shown above, is best, but not all bloggers offer this option. If you are offered this option, take it, but do not spam. Leave a relevant comment, then type your name and your URL in the spaces provided.

Using anonymous to sign your comment means that you can give as much or as little information as you wish. However, you may add your name and a link at the bottom of your relevant comment. See following example.

If you do not code your URL in HTML, it will show up as plain text. See the difference between CyberCelt and blog URL above.

How do you receive a backlink on a do follow Google blog?

  • Leave a thoughtful comment that is pertinent to the blog post;
  • Use the Name/URL option; or
  • Use OpenID option; or,
  • Use the Anonymous option, sign your post and add URL coded in HTML
How do you get your comment deleted?
  • Leave a comment that is words copied from the blog post;
  • Leave a lame comment like, "Good job";
  • Leave a comment asking for a link;
  • Leave the same comment (cut and pasted) every time;
  • Use a name like UsedCarSales, ChicagoRentals, CheapTravel, etc.;
  • Leave a URL for a site that is not a blog, but a website, affiliate site, etc.
  • Comment on old posts in the hopes that the blogger will not check them.
I hope this helps you understand Google do follow blogs a little better. Remember, the blogger chooses to give backlinks, you cannot scam them. They will be deleted.

Normally, I do not discuss drugs on any of my blogs. However, this advertisement for legalizing and taxing marijuana to support the tax base makes sense to me.

Perhaps my change of heart has something to do with my son being arrested, again, for smoking marijuana. He is only 19 years old and is almost a junior in college, but he will be spending the rest of his college career in jail. Yes, he smokes marijuana. This is like the fourth time they have busted him. Yes, he is stupid.

Last time, DEA busted down his door with guns drawn. This time, the three big policemen from the narcotics division came. I believe the cops in San Marcos would rather bust a skinny, stupid, struggling teenager than tackle someone with a gun or a knife, maybe someone dangerous like a burglar or murderer, what about child abusers and other true criminals. Why my son?

Why My Son?
Why is he a felon because he smokes pot?

We elect politicians who have been caught with crack and cocaine while in an elective office. He forgive our officials who spend state money on flings to foreign countiries. We allow governors to rewrite humane laws, sue people who pissed them off, and turn down money from the federal government.

WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY?

We Are Idiots!

we are idiotsThis was sent to me by a good friend who swears it is real and not photoshopped. I do not know if that is true, but it is funny. Syrian protesters asked the wrong man to write their signs in English. This is true in life, too. Know with whom you are dealing before you put up any money.

What You Should Know About Blogger

Just this month, I have had the opportunity to help some folks with some Blogger template issues. These are questions I have had before, so I thought I would share them in a series of posts so that perhaps they will help someone else.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Before Making Changes to Blog Template or Settings
Backup your template. You have read this before. From you DASHBOARD > SETTINGS > EDIT HTML > EXPAND WIDGET TEMPLATE (check it) > copy entire template to a plain text editor, like NotePad or WordPad. SAVE AS blogname_backup_6 digit date (CoolAdzine_backup_070109). Do this for all your blogs.
TIP: May I also suggest that you add another blog to your dashboard? Call it TEST or SAND BOX or whatever you wish. Copy your entire blog template to this test blog. Experiment with anything on this blog before changing your actual blog. Make sure you update your Google profile to NOT show this test blog.
One Way To Remove Navbar In Blogger
1. Open your Blogger dashboard.
2. Go to LAYOUT > EDIT HTML
3. Find this phrase.
/* Variable definitions
====================
4. Add the following phrase above the phrase found in step 3 :
#navbar-iframe { display: none !important; }
5. Save your settings and view your blog now. The navigation bar will be gone.
TIP: You may also want to read How to Remove and Hide Blogger NavBar (Top Navigation Bar) » My Digital Life that provides several ways as well for the different versions of Blogger.
