Remember Fallen Warriors Today

Memorial Day 2010

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who died in service to our country. Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday in 1971, to be celebrated on the last Monday of May.

Originally know as Decoration Day, it is believed that Memorial day started in the United States after the Civil War to remember fallen Union soldiers. This might be true, because eight southern states hold a separate memorial day for fallen Confederate soldiers.

About 5,000 people attend the Memorial Day ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery each year. A small American flag is placed on each grave and the President lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Are You Addicted? Apparently, 56 percent of social media users NEED to check FaceBook at least once a day, 12 percent MUST check in every couple of hours. Almost 50 percent admitted checking in with social networks before bed, during the night or as soon as they wake up.

Mobile apps, display and search-ad revenue are expected to nearly double in 2010 to $430 million in the U.S., hitting $1.8 billion by 2014, compared to 47% growth in 2009, according to research firm IDC.
Q&A: Potential Inquiries Into Apple’s Rules - Digits - WSJ

Apple may be investigated by the FTC for restricting competition in mobile advertising. Apple recently changed its terms of service, restricting app development for iPhone to those only developed with Apple software. Apple would like to prevent iPhone apps from transmitting data to third parties. which serves to limit development of third-party ad applications.

What does this mean for the average marketer? If you are already using Adsense for your mobile advertising, the transition to the mobile market will be an easy one. To reach the legions of iPhone users, you will deal with Apple and iAd.
