Hero Carried to Final Resting Place

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who died in service to our country. Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday in 1971, to be celebrated on the last Monday of May.

About 5,000 people attend the Memorial Day ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery each year. A small American flag is placed on each grave and the President lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Vida Guerra Bares All For Peta

Guerra has teamed up with PETA to raise awareness of the suffering endured by animals used for food and to promote the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle. She stars in a print public service announcement to encourage others to spice up their lives by going vegetarian. On average, vegetarians weigh less, live longer, and enjoy a lower risk of health-related concerns such as heart disease, strokes, cancer, and diabetes than meat-eaters. Vida urges her fans, "I challenge anyone to try it out for 30 days and then after 30 days evaluate your life and how you feel."

International Day of Compassion : Patch Adams, M.D.

Today is the International Day of Compassion in honor of Patch Adams, M.D.  This man travels the globe 300 days a year in order to help those who need healing. He has visited over 70 countries and takes his Clown Patrols to active war zones such as Kabul, Afghanistan.  Dr. Adams has a dream of building a hospital that has compassion for each soul that enters those doors.

Patch Adams is best known for his work as a medical doctor and a clown, and he is also a social activist who has devoted 40 years to changing America's health care system. He believes that laughter, joy and creativity are an integral part of the healing process.

From his blog post http://www.patchadams.org/friend-an-external-personality-disorder
Given how easy it is to connect with people all over the world, it is amazing that anyone is lonely. Hey, be friendly! There are 7 billion people. Friendly is easy. Put a twinkle in your eye, a smile on you face and greet people. Engage others. Have interests. Be playful. Sure, if you’re starting out, there are awkward moments, also called teaching moments. I’ve played in 70 countries and everywhere people love friendly. Over time I found out that adding clown clothes and being goofy made everything easier. Anyone can choose to be friendly! Remember, a smile and a twinkle. You can stop Lonely! Be friendly!

I am still in Houston and will begin treatment next month. I will try to keep up with all my blogs, but I will be using guest posts to keep my blog current.

Guest post by Nora Howe:

I'm a lawyer so it's really important for me to maintain constant contact with my clients so they feel safe and secure working with me. I recently signed up for Mobile Broadband 4Gto make sure I always have Internet access, even when I am in my car or on a job meeting with a client. It's actually been working out really well for me so far, and I think my clients are really impressed with how well I'm able to respond to their questions and concerns by e-mail. Working with a smart phone really limits how effectively I'm able to communicate my message, so having a full laptop at my disposal is much better for my line of work. Especially since many times, I need to e-mail documents or PDF contracts to clients and can't do that using a phone. I've made several upgrades to my practice in the last year, but getting wireless Internet is definitely one of the smartest decisions I've made yet. Hopefully my clients will continue to acknowledge how much I put into this firm.

Thanks for the post, Nora Howe
